These images were produced for a joint exhibition on the human form. I got caught a bit short here and had to finish these at short notice. You’ll notice I couldn’t help myself, and crow-barred some scifi elements in. Completed digitally.
Here are my entries for the 2000ad spring art stars competition. The theme was strontium dogs (a classic line up of characters from the 2000ad stable. The first is johnny alpha and the second, durham red.
I really enjoyed doing these. I spent quite a bit of time on one ; the second I hammered together at the last minute. In hindsight, I wish i had done more with the dust clouds in the first, and the water vapour in the second. Also, i wish I had tackled one of them in a bit more of an impressionistic way (less exacting deatil and more atmospheric) . It might have been an interesting experiment. They were completed digitally.
On to the next job!
A change of speed here; 4 pager comic strip one off, completed for the guys at Psychedelic Journal of Wizardry.
Quite enjoyed this one; a story about 2 companions on an epic quest. The second page is probably my favourite ….anything with creatures and action…..
Completed digitally in Clip Studio

Admittedly not anywhere near september anymore but here’s the selection for the 2018 Sketchtember challenge for true believers comic festival. It features favouites of mine, from various franchises, DC, Marvel and 2000ad.
Flashback to last year: Here’s a collection of sketches completed for the 2017 September drawing challenge hosted by the guys at true believers comic festival. It features all things related to Marvel’s Daredevil. Great practice and a pretty enjoyable process; so much so, I partook this year too. I’ll post that shortly as well. Enjoy!
Finally got around to finishing this..or at least getting it to a point i’m happy to leave it at. Since the last post i’ve added a background just to give it some meaning rather than old stoney faces floating head in space. Learned a lot from this, and i’m quite happy with dredd’s face. I think i’ll plan layout a bit more next time.
On a separate note; i’ve entered it into a 2000ad artstars competition. We’ll see how we go anyway!
Completed for the Psychedelic Journal of the Wild West a while back. I love a good cowboys movie, and as a result quite liked tackling this one.
Titled “The Masked Rider” by Matthew Allen. It’s the tale of a low-down bounty hunter on the trail of a masked rider. In hindsight there’s a few things I’d like to change (but isn’t there always?).
Completed using traditional blue pencils and then scanned into Photoshop for inking and colouring. I learned a fair bit from this and think on the whole it worked out pretty well. The second page is my favourite. The three frames mid page were very satisfying.
Now for something a bit more current. This is a WIP for one of a few postcard size prints. My favourite fictional facist.
I’m working digitally in clip studio paint. Aiming for a quasi-realistic look. Still plenty to go here; with a view to adding atmosphere, more texture and elements from the characters world.
